Media Studies (EMS3O) gives you the skills to understand and analyze the media coverage of one of the most talked-about conflicts in the world: Israel-Palestine.

Prerequisite: ENG2P, English, Grade 10, Applied or ENG2D, English, Grade 10, Academic

EMS3O is a year course beginning in October.

We meet twice a week for 25 weeks, with all Jewish and civil holidays off.

Although we’d like you to start in October, you can join the course up until the end of November.

There are homework assignments that drop in Google Classroom as well as short presentations where you analyse how traditional media have covered events in Israeli and Palestinian history.

There are no exams or tests.

As we approach the end of the year, we will meet to review the requirements for your Culminating work which will put you in the position of content creator!

The Culminating is due at the end of June.

The clip above comes from a May 2023 Al-Jazeera news broadcast covering a “provocative” visit by an Israeli cabinet minister to the Temple Mount/Haram al Sharif in Jerusalem.

What kind of biases can you identify in the coverage? Does this item inform, misinform, disinform or malinform?  In this course, we’ll address these questions and so many more about how we consume and process what we see and read.
